FirstEnergy Tax Credit Proposal Coming Soon

(Oak Harbor, OH) Northern Ohio residents could see their utility bills go up-- because of nuclear energy.

Ohio lawmakers are writing a new bill that would give subsidies for FirstEnergy to keep its struggling nuclear power plants.  A state representative said at an energy conference Tuesday that FirstEnergy wants a tax credit because the Davis Besse nuclear power plant near Oak Harbor and the Perry nuclear station near Cleveland don't cause any pollution.

If the law goes through, the so-called zero-emission credits would likely cost customers in the affected areas a five-percent increase in their gas and electric bills.
