"Adoption" of Undocumented Immigration Kids Plan

(Toledo, OH) Toledo may end up with a unique response to the deportation of illegal immigrants.

A local Latino leader is calling on the community to "adopt" any children left behind by their undocumented parents who may be detained or deported by federal immigration authorities.

Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC) president Baldemar Velasquez plans a Wednesday evening meeting to lay out plans for taking care of kids and property left behind by immigration raids he expects from the Trump administration. FLOC represents migrant farm workers and their families.

Velasquez cites an Advocates for Basic Legal Equality estimate that up to 10,000 undocumented immigrants are living in Northwest Ohio.

That meeting is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at FLOC's Toledo offices.
