COLUMBUS, Ohio - Valentine's Day is the newest tool of some scammers out there.
There's a rash of dating scams happening just in time for Valentine's day. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says the scam artists use online chat rooms and apps to swindle well-meaning people out of sometimes thousands.
"The scam artist really takes their time. They may wait six months before they really pull the trigger on how they're going to rip you off but they try to establish a relationship, make you feel like they know you very well. They always have a reason why they cannot meet you in person," DeWine says.
DeWine says do not give money to these people, especially those overseas. He says it's wise to call the Attorney General's office if you recognize a scam happening.
