COLUMBUS, Ohio - Three Republican lawmakers are backing a move at the Statehouse to require a 'SNAP' recipient's photo to be displayed on their benefits card.
Cutting down on fraud with Ohio's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is the point of the new proposal. It's getting support from State Auditor Dave Yost.
"Right now, the process allows for a designated beneficiary that you can pick your son or your sister or a caregiver that can go and exercise your benefits. What we would like to see is cards issued for those designated folks in the long run," Yost says.
The EBT cards would include photo ID, a fraud reporting web site, and list exemptions for public assistance beneficiaries.
