The father of a two-year old boy “sentenced to death” spoke out against Britain’s National Health Service Tuesday; hours after UK judges decided the child could be removed from life support against his parents’ wishes.
The UK High Court’s recent ruling to discontinue life-saving services on Alfie Evans echoes similar judgements in recent months; with British doctors arguing that prolonging the boy’s life would simply cause greater suffering with no chance of recovery.
The toddler’s father, Tom Evans, issued an impassioned plea outside the court, vowing to fight the NHS and pledging to keep his 21-month old child alive.

“Can you believe that my son has just been sentenced to a death penalty with two days to go?” asked Evans. “Is this right? I’m not crying because I know how wrong they are and I know how strong my boy’s doing.”
“This isn’t over. This is just the start. I’m going to take this absolute NHS down. I’m not giving up,” he added. “No one, and I repeat no one in this country is taking my boy away from me.”
