Mail Carrier Admits Voter Fraud

Inside of a USPS facility

A West Virginia mail carrier is facing eight years in federal prison after admitting he took people's absentee ballot requests --- and switched their party to be Republican.

47-year-old Thomas Cooper was caught after the Clerk of Pendleton County found eight primary election mail-in absentee requests were altered using a black pen.

Officials say five of the requests had been changed so the voters' ballot choice was Republican instead of Democrat.

But, the clerk knew some of the voters were not Republicans.

When investigators met with Cooper, he admitted to changing some of the ballots.

"[I did it] as a joke. I don't even know them."

Cooper's attorney said his client simply engaged in a "silly lark".
