Dr. Anthony Fauci, CDC Director and FDA Administrator Testify Before Senate

Dr. Anthony Fauci

Dr. Anthony Fauci, CDC Director Robert Redfield and FDA Administrator Stephen Hahn are testifying before the Senate on how to reopen schools safely in the fall during the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking on Capitol Hill, Senate HELP Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander discussed the use of masks and how the "simple lifesaving practice" has become part of the political debate. He said President Trump has millions of admirers and "it would help end this political debate" if he wore a mask because the stakes are too high.

Ranking Member Patty Murray called the Trump Administration's COVID-19 response a "disaster" because the President has not taken testing seriously.

Top infections disease expert Dr. Fauci said they are "cautiously optimistic" that they will have a vaccine by the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

Redfield explained it's critical that we all take the personal responsibility to slow the spread and embrace the universal method of face coverings, specifically Millennials and Generation Z. According to Hahn, they will not "cut corners" in their decision making when developing a vaccine, but rapid testing and therapeutic development can aid in returning to school and the workplace.
