Last week, on Wednesday with Wade, Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz shared a brilliant idea at the end of his segment on The Scott Sands Show -- we should rename the Toledo Express Airport in honor of Toledo native, Central Catholic graduate, and longtime NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz (click here to watch). As I've said for the past week, I absolutely love this idea and have been doing whatever I can to move the ball forward.
Paul Toth, CEO of the Toledo Lucas County Port Authority, which runs the Toledo Express Airport, agreed to come on the show to talk about the idea and tell us about the tremendous impact TLCPA has on the region's economy. We learned something very interesting today ... TLCPA is not opposed to the name change at all and there's one person who actually has the authority to make it happen! For the record, the Mayor says he plans to meet with the TLCPA Board in a couple of weeks and will readdress the subject. Toth estimates a cost of about $100,000 to rename TOL the Gene Kranz Toledo Express Airport.
