President Donald Trump will address the nation from the Oval Office at 9 p.m. on Tuesday (January 8) to discuss the situation at the border between the United States and Mexico. On Monday, Trump said in a tweet announcing his primetime address, that there is a "Humanitarian and National Security crisis on our Southern Border" and is demanding $5.6 billion dollars in funding to build a border wall.

He enlisted in the Ohio National Guard in 1980, graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1982, and received his BA in Political Science from Wright State University in Dayton.
As a result of Trump's demand and the Democrats united stance against it, the government has been partially shut down for nearly three weeks because Congress was unable to pass a budget that Trump would sign into law.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer will deliver the Democratic responseto President Trump's speech. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will also deliver a rebuttal that will be broadcast on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
