Saturday evening, Toledo Police attempted to arrest a bleeding, naked man, who appeared to be high on drugs, in West Toledo. After the video of his arrest was posted to social media, many are accusing local police of brutality in his arrest. A spokesperson for Toledo Police denies those claims.
Octavio Vazquez of Sylvania was behaving strangely near the intersection of Dorr & Byrne, but also bleddin gfrom his head. Witnesses say they saw Vazquez hit by a brick, which caused the bleeding.
The video received more than 200,000 views before it was taken down. Many people who left comments were critical of the arrest. The Blade reports that Vazquez was uncooperative, crawled beneath a police car before burning himself on the engine, and was pepper-sprayed before he was taken to UTMC for evaluation.
