Judge Issues Full Gag Order On Roger Stone Following Instagram Post

Roger Stone, former campaign adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump, leaves a U.S. district courthouse after a show cause hearing

A federal judge in Washington, D.C. has imposed a full gag order on Roger Stone, a political consultant and former campaign adviser for President Donald Trump. Judge Amy Berman Jackson ordered Stone to stop making public comments about his ongoing case.

"I have serious doubts about whether you learned anything at all," Jackson said. "From this moment on, the defendant may not speak publicly about this case -- period. No statements about the case on TV, radio, print reporters, or Internet. No posts on social media. [You] may not comment on the case through surrogates. You may send out emails about donating to the Roger Stone defense fund."

Stone was called back into court after he posted a photo of Judge Jackson with an image of crosshairs above her head on Instagram. In the caption, he called her "an Obama appointed Judge who dismissed the Benghazi charges against Hillary Clinton."

Stone apologized for posting the picture, but Jackson said that his apology "rings quite hollow."

"Roger Stone fully understands the power of words and the power of symbols," she said. "In this age of social media, there's really no such thing as a takeback."

Stone has been charged with witness tampering, obstruction of justice and making false statements to Congress. The charges stemmed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian collusion with Trump's election campaign.
