Toledo's new plan for attacking gun violence in the city is to treat it as a public health issue. Tuesday the mayor announced a new initiative to curb gun violence by working with social service agencies, law enforcement, and violence interrupters. The violence interrupters will be members of the community familiar with the people responsible for the violence and with some standing in the community able to talk to the those responsible and curb the violence. The mayor also said the city will engage local social agencies along with law enforcement and community members to find ways to provide services to those most in need so the choice of violence is lessened.
