President Trump used the power of the pen this weekend when he signed four executive orders, which likely will be challenged in court, saying they would ease the burden for taxpayers during the coronavirus pandemic. The President extended the unemployment benefit being payed by the federal government although it is less than the $600 originally paid out. Trump also extended a moratorium on evictions, deferral of student loan payments, and a possible deferment of payroll taxes which fund Social Security and Medicare.
While running as a candidate Trump slammed then President Obama for his use of executive orders tweeting "why is Barack Obama ....issuing Executive Orders.....power grabs of authority". Trump however has now signed more than 160 Executive Orders in just three years.
