A letter to the editor in today's Blade suggests that the four Toledo city council people charged with bribery and extortion may have been targeted by the FBI. The writer goes so far as to say "But it is fair to ask if presidential politics are behind this case.:" Why President Trump would care about four council members in a city the size of Toledo isn't explained but the letter writer seems to believe having this happen in the swing state of Ohio would be beneficial to Trump, writing "it will be very convenient to have a trial of the four smeared across the news outlets of swing-state Ohio just before the election."
The investigation was a two year effort based on information from an informant who himself faces charges of illegal entry into the country and is facing deportation.
