The Metroparks Toledo board is expected to place a new levy request on the November ballot. This new levy will ask for 2 mills to be used for future projects and expansion of the park system. Using the COVID 19 crisis as an excuse Scott Savage, the Board President, says they recognized the need for the levy after seeing the increased need for the parks during the shutdown. According to the board taking more local taxpayer dollars will allow it to leverage requests for other taxpayer dollars from grants and to attract private investors.
The increase would be on top of the two current levys which run until 2022 and 2027. This new levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home an additional $70 per year. The vote will be taken at the July meeting of the Metroparks board.
