The call to defund police departments has become a rallying cry at some rallies and marches in the last ten days following the killing of George Floyd. Some in the Black LIves Matter movement want departments defunded with the money going to social services for drug abuse, mental health, and youth programs. Others have folded in the food desert argument and other peripheral programs the African-American community deals with daily.
There has been no suggestion yet as to what would happen once security forces were defunded. Who would respond to calls for domestic violence, robbery, shootings etc etc. Is unclear if organizers expect these problems with cease once other services are increased or if they expect some other type of enforcement to take the place of current police departments.
