The impeachment trial of President Donald J Trump begins in the United States Senate Wednesday at 1p under rules set forth by Mitch McConnell. Opening arguments by both sides will be given 24 hours over the course of two days each. Democrats are already complaining that that will mean long days and arguments would be pushed into the evening. The prosecution will make their arguments first then after the prosecution's time is up, Trump's defense team will take over. The President's legal team made the case that he did "absolutely nothing wrong,"and should be swiftly acquitted.
Following that, senators will have the opportunity to ask questions in writing for a period of 16 hours. The next step is the Senate taking up "the question of whether it shall be in order to consider and debate under the impeachment rules any motion to subpoena witnesses or documents."
And even then it's not finished. Any witnesses would have to be deposed first. So this trial could last for weeks, possibly months.
Should the Trump team take the full 24 hours for opening arguments or just stand up and say "witch hunt" then sit down.?
