I had a day off so I thought I'd spend a little of it checking out one of the area's largest parks, Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania. Jeff Clegg was kind enough to hop in the golf cart and drive me around a bit. This time of year the park is beautiful with trees already beginning to change color and mums blooming everywhere. The weather in Toledo has been so odd this Summer that some of the Summer flowers are still in bloom adding a nice mix of colors to the grounds.
Throughout the year Toledo Memorial Park holds special events to honor our veterans and to help the community. This November 23rd they will hold the 10th Annual Memorial Tree Lighting. This year when you bring a non perishable food item or toiletries to donate to Sylvania Area Family Services you'll be given an ornament to place on the tree during the lighting which begins at 4p that Saturday. You MUST pre-register so your loved one's name can be added to the scroll. Call 419-882-7151 or click on this link TOLEDO MEMORIAL PARK
The other annual event which is very moving to be a part of is the Wreaths Over America scheduled for Saturday December 14 at Noon. Volunteers are needed to place wreaths on the graves of veterans buried at the park and remember those who have sacrificed all. If you would like to purchase a wreath you can use the link above, if you wish to volunteer to lay a wreath please join us at Noon at the soldier's monument in the center of Toledo Memorial Park.
