According to an article in the Toledo Blade some local union members still think it's important that a candidate for office be seen driving an American made vehicle. According to the article many still believe it's important for a candidate to at least appear to support the auto industry when visiting cities like Toledo and Detroit. Some campaigns will use different type vehicles depending on where the candidate is campaigning, for instance electric automobiles in California while using a Chevy or Ford while in Michigan. Democrats believe it's more important for local races than for the national races when it come to auto choice, many will remember the outcry when Commissioner Pete Gerken bought his wife a foreign car and was forced to return it when local unions complained.
Knowing that national candidates most often rent cars when coming to Toledo does it matter to you what car they might be driving or are the actual programs they espouse more important?
