Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix opens in theaters nationwide this Thursday and it's already causing a stir. Some cities where the movie will be shown have decided to put extra police on site at the showings in case of violence. Social justice warriors are fearful the violence of the movie will trigger those with a motive to cause violence of their own, and some theaters are banning the wearing of clown costumes and clown masks to the movie.
The story is dark for sure and follows the beginnings of the iconic Joker character from DC Comics. Although Joker has been portrayed in previous movies there has never been a true origin story for the character and some comic book fans don't want one now and say they won't go see the movie.
The portrayal by Phoenix has been drawing raves and is said to be Oscar worthy.
