Yesterday the Congress took the first steps toward impeachment of President Donald Trump. Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the official start of an impeachment inquiry which will begin the long process. The charges to be investigated come from a whistleblower report about a call between Pres. Trump and the leader of Ukraine. The whistleblower report has not been seen by the Congress yet and is expected to be released today by the administration along with a transcript of the actual phone call in question.
Should the whistleblower report be correct and President Trump did in fact offer quid pro quo for financial support then charges would be brought. The House holds the power to impeach but the Senate holds the power to try the President. The President can be removed from office "for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors," according to the Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution." Other than removal from office there is no other punishment the Congress can lay on the convicted.
Are you worried about this impeachment inquiry? Will it shake your faith in Trump? Is it just another witch hunt?
