Comedian Shane Gillis who was expected to be part of the new season of SNL has now been fired over what some consider racist comments about Asians and gays. Gillis does a podcast with his partner and in one episode which came to light recently he was heard using derogatory language for both groups, and ranking women comedians using language that some are calling hurtful and offensive.
Saturday Night Live which in previous years has actually had Asian characters in sketches like Samurai deli, and Samurai hotel did not comment on their lack of Asian writers, or comedians in their statement announcing the release of Gillis.
Comedians are coming out both in favor of the firing and some are standing up for Gillis decrying the "cancel culture" that calls for people to lose their jobs over supposed racist comments.
Here's Bill Burr and Jim Jefferies on the new David Spade show talking about the firing.
