Beginning this school year the Diocese of Detroit will no longer be scheduling youth sports activities including games or practices. Archbishop Allen Vigneron said the reason for the change is to "reclaim Sunday". "In shifting away from the hustle of required sporting activities on Sunday, we will reclaim this holy day and create more time for families to choose activities that prioritize time spent with each other and our Lord," Vigneron said. The ban will include all CYO and Catholic High School League practices or games so that families can spend the day in reflection and family centered activities away from technology and the busyness of life.
