In a recent interview the acting head of Citizenship and Immigration Services, Ken Cuccinelli, suggested new words for the poem at the base of the Statue of Liberty. Most people know part of the poem about your tired, your poor, your wretched refuse....Cuccinelli suggested it should read “Give me your tired, your poor who can stand on their own two feet and who will not become a public charge,” He also suggested it was only meant to refer to European immigrants not the current wave of immigrants coming into the country illegally from Mexico and Central America.
