According to a recent Blade report mistakes in recycling material is costing Toledo over $1000 a day. Republic services get about 100 tons of recyclables from Toledo each day but much of it is mixed with material that is not considered recyclable. That's where the problem comes in. If it can't be recycled it goes to the landfill. That a global drop in prices paid for paper and other items has made it costly for communities to continue to recycle. Some states have already stopped their programs and are now burning trash.
