Jon Reyes, a Manitoba Cabinet minister, felt the hot wrath of Twitter on his neck after he Tweeted a photo of his wife, Cynthia, shoveling snow in below-freezing temperatures.
An obvious attempt to show love for his lady, Reyes Tweeted: āEven after a 12 hour night shift at the hospital last night, my wife still has the energy to shovel the driveway. God bless her and all our frontliners. Time to make her some breakfast.ā
Needless to say, the Tweet backfired. The Cabinet minister was absolutely berated by followers for not helping his wife, let alone not having the driveway shoveled and done upon her return home from work.
Thomas Lukaszuk, a Canadian politician, assured his followers that the photo was ānot a depiction of every politician husbandā as he acknowledged the photo wasnāt a good look for Reyes and his peers.
Some Twitter users suspected Reyes of creating a fake account for his wife after the backlash ensued after an account with his wifeās name retweeted the photo saying āAll I wanted to do was shovel!ā
While declining an interview with the Canadian news outlet CBC, Reyes sent a statement via email: āMy wife is amazing, both at home and at work. Iām eternally grateful for her and everything she does. I love her very much,ā he said, according to the outlet.
Reyes continued: āIām happy that she is getting the worldwide recognition she deserves, and it serves as a reminder to everyone ā especially me today - that we can never do enough to show our gratitude to healthcare workers.ā
Enjoy that big bowl of humble pie, Mr. Reyes. And maybe next time, shovel the driveway before she even gets home to show just how appreciative you are of her.
