Charred Remains Of Florida Woman Found Inside Port-A-Potty

Investigators are trying to identify a dead woman they found inside a port-a-potty at a construction site in Florida. Firefighters were called to the scene early Saturday (September 28) morning after neighbors reported seeing flames shooting 15 feet into the air.

When first responders arrived, they extinguished the flames and found the body of a woman inside the port-a-potty. The woman's remains were too badly burned to identify her.

"Regarding today's discovery of human remains contained within a portable toilet, detectives believe the decedent is a white female," the sheriff's office said. "At this time, we have not received any missing persons reports that may coincide with this incident."

Officials are trying to determine what caused the explosion and neighbors reported seeing investigators wearing hazmat suits combing the property looking for clues. Authorities suggested the woman may have been trying to light a cigarette, which sparked the fire.

"A person could have gone in there, and the methane gas could have ignited somehow," St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Chuck Mulligan said. "It might have been a suicide or something more nefarious. We just 't don't know at this juncture."
