AW School District Seeks New Home Values

(Whitehouse, OH) The Anthony Wayne school board could get an earful from angry homeowners tonight.

School administrators sent about sixty letters out recently, challenging the property values of some parents in the district. A booming housing market means the time is ripe to challenge home values and get more in property taxes for the Anthony Wayne Schools coffers.

The district disbanded the practice last year at the request of the Lucas County auditor, who's set to revaluate properties this year under state law. But there may be a discrepancy in the assessed value of a property by the auditor's office and the actual sale price-- and that could cost a homeowner thousands of tax dollars each year.

Many of those affected homeowners plan to make themselves heard at a board of education meeting at 6 p.m.
