(Toledo, OH) Graduating engineering students at the University of Toledo show off what they learned later today.
One of the projects could be a game-changer for space exploration. A four-student design team went to NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab in California last week to show NASA engineers a prototype for a deployable "wrap-rib" space structure to be used with a space telescope for exoplanet astronomy.
The student engineers impressed enough that the collaboration will continue.
Another senior design team took on the task of drawing up a solar array using 200-thousand dollars worth of solar panels donated by First Solar...which could save U-T half a million dollars over the next quarter-century at the Health Science campus.
Businesses, industries and federal agencies sponsor the projects required for graduation. Those senior design projects will be on display noon to 3 p.m. today at U-T's Nitschke Auditorium.
