An American minister who's been in a Turkish jail for a year-a-half is now on trial. Turkey accuses evangelical pastor Andrew Brunson of working with a group allied with Fethullah Gulen, a Muslim preacher the Turkish government says was behind a failed coup attempt in July of 2016. Brunson, who is from North Carolina, also is accused of political and military espionage. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has offered to trade Brunson for the self-exiled Gulen who has been living in the U.S. for almost 20 years.
The American government has rejected the trade.
