(Bowling Green, OH) Ohio's agriculture industry appears to be, well...growing.
The preliminary farm value of Ohio field crops produced last year was just under five billion dollars, an increase of 7 percent from 2015.
Wood County leads the state when it comes to the amount of soybeans produced last year. Farmers there produced 8.38 million bushels, according to statistics released this week by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
An overall increase in soybean prices and production along with an increase in wheat production offset a decrease in corn prices. There are 74,500 farms in Ohio with a total of 14 million acres-- both unchanged from 2015. The average farm size in Ohio stands at 188 acres.
