Van Wert Vet Gets WW II Medals on 95th Birthday

(Van Wert, OH) A Van Wert veteran gets some long-overdue military medals. Congressman Bob Latta presented Orval Mullen with medals earned while he served in World War Two.

Latta interviewed Mullen for a living history project and learned he never received the medals-- so on his 95th birthday, the congressman helped him celebrate by presenting him with a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and nine other medals and military awards.

Latta noted that Mullen earned a number of prestigious medals and commendations because of his heroic actions in combat, but a military oversight meant that he never received what was rightfully his.
