While giving an interview to promote his new film, "F9" wrestler-actor John Cena referred to Taiwan as a country. The Chinese government considers Taiwan a breakaway district and not a country at all. Following social media outrage Cena issued his apology in Mandarin which he has learned to help expand the WWE into the Chinese market.
Cena made his apology in a Weibo video saying “I made a mistake, now I have to say one thing which is very, very, very important: I love and respect China and Chinese people.” He continued: “I’m very sorry for my mistakes. Sorry. Sorry. I’m really sorry. You have to understand that I love and respect China and Chinese people.”
