New York state has passed a bill giving illegal immigrants the right to obtain driver licenses. Polls in the state showed little support from New York residents including law enforcement officials. Proponents believe it will ease illegal immigrant fears of being deported and Gov. Cuomo wanted assurances that it wouldn't create a data base of illegal immigrants for federal officials to use to find those people.
