Put-in-Bay Village Officials Indicted After Corruption Probe

PORT CLINTON, Ohio - Corruption charges were announced Thursday against Put-in-Bay's mayor and the village's former fiscal officer after a probe into public corruption.

Mayor Bernard McCann is alleged to have used his position as mayor to secure waterline project contracts for a business associate. He has been indicted on two counts of Having an Unlawful Interest in a Public Contract and four counts of Conflict of Interest. 

Kelly Niese, the Village's former Fiscal Officer is accused of disbursing village funds to herself without authorization of village council. She faces one count of theft in office and one count of grand theft.

Melinda McCann Myers, the former President of Put-in-Bay Village Council, and Bernard McCann, a member of Put-in-Bay Village Council, were both charged earlier with multiple counts of Conflict of Interest. 

The charges arise from a joint criminal investigation conducted by the Ohio Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Ohio Ethics Commission.
