Michael Collins Blood Drive Being Held Today

(Toledo, OH) A former Toledo mayor is being honored with a blood drive.

Former Toledo mayor and city council member D. Michael Collins had a big history in organized labor as a long-time president of the Toledo Police Patrolman's Association.

So the United Labor Committee has renamed its annual Labor Day weekend blood drive in his honor. The blood drive has been an annual event for more than a quarter-century, drawing as many as 365 union members and community leaders to donate in a single day.

Today's blood drive takes on extra importance because of a summertime blood shortage across the region. There are a number of incentives for donors who come to the UAW Local 12 hall between now and 6 p.m., including Red Cross Tshirts, U-T football tickets, and Visa gift cards.
