Springfield Schools Asks Voters for Security Levy

(Holland, OH) Springfield Schools is the second to seek a security levy on the November ballot.

The Springfield school board says there's a need for new doors and cameras with a centralized location to view building entrances to improve security in the district. But a classroom door specially-designed to fend off an active shooter costs $1,000 each.

So the board of education is asking voters to approve a renewal levy with a slight increase to pay for those security improvements. The school board president says five-year property tax levy would be an investment by parents and taxpayers tokeep students safe.

The Sylvania board of education also is weighing the option of asking voters to approve a new-money levy for better school security measures, including more mental health counselors.
