Sylvania Schools to Consider Special Security Levy

(Sylvania, OH) Sylvania Schools may move quickly to put a special levy on the November ballot.

The Sylvania school board only has ten days to meet a levy deadline, but administrators are pushing a new state law that allows district officials to put a special levy request on the ballot for safety and security improvements.

Some are bricks and mortar improvements—more cameras and an electronic visitor identity system, a new phone system with better security communication features.

But the special levy also is intended to hire more school resource officers and mental health counselors at all education levels—the counseling aimed at preventing school shootings and other violence.

The school board meets at 5 p.m. at Southview High School.
