Balloons, Chicken, Antique Farming on Weekend

(Toledo, OH) Plenty of outdoor fun is on tap this weekend across Northwest Ohio.

It's a real weekend wing-ding in one Fulton County community. 5,200 chicken halves will be grilled and served over the next three days, but that's what the Delta Chicken Festival has been about for more than six decades. A flea market and Saturday evening talent show are new features this year at Delta Municipal Park. There will be Friday night fireworks. Sports also play a big role: with a 5-K race Saturday morning, a youth baseball tournament, 3-on-3 basketball, 3-on-3 soccer, and 5-on-5 football tournaments. The Delta Community Band will give a performance and there's even a cornhole tournament. Sunday features a car, truck and motorcycle show, an outdoor community church service, and an afternoon parade.

Balloons and a blue sky this weekend in Rossford. Organizers expect 30,000 people to look skyward this weekend for the third year of the Glass City Balloon Race, but the  first time in Rossford. The base of operations for hot air balloons will be Total Sports in the Crossroads area, where there will be night glows and other events. But there will be plenty of events on terra firma with a 5-K race, BMX stunt bike demos, along with nightly live music, a beer garden and fireworks displays. Helicopter rides will be available during the day. Saturday also features fishing, archery, and shooting workshops at Bass Pro.

The Lucas County Fair continues today with DARE Day—anyone who completed the drug education program gets in free. A cornhole tournament and Kentucky Chrome in concert are the evening’s entertainment. Tug-a-Truck and a hay loading competition are Saturday’s featured events, with pony pulls and air dog performances wrapping up the fair on Sunday in Maumee.

Music under the Stars returns this weekend at the Toledo Zoo. The Toledo Symphony Concert Band will take the stage at the zoo amphitheatre for weekly Sunday evening concerts. The music of John Williams—including Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars is the theme of this week’s outdoor concert, starting at 7:30 p.m.

A new outdoor summer concert series begins tomorrow evening in Toledo. The Ottawa Park concert series kicks off with The Good, The Bad, and the Blues. That concert will run 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ottawa Park Amphitheater behind the Toledo Police substation.

High school football players will take the field locally one last time for the Northwest Ohio All-Star football game tonight at Steinecker Stadium in Perrysburg. The black and gold teams are stocked with graduated seniors from across the region, some playing one last game, while others will head to college football in the fall. The 28th annual game starts at 7 p.m.

The 58th annual Five Point Steam Threshers reunion occurs on Sunday in Wood County. The show demonstrating farm life of yesteryear will feature sawmill and wheat threshing demos, antique farm tractors and cars, steam tractor engines, kettle corn and the show’s popular bean soup. The event runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lashaway Properties, a 33-acre field at Five Points and Lime City roads.
