Judge To Rule On Lead Law Injunction

(Toledo, OH)  A Lucas County judge is expected to decide today whether Toledo can continue enforcing its lead safe law.

Property owners affected by the lead testing ordinance have asked the judge for an injunction until a decision is reached on the legality of measure.  Landlords say the city of Toledo doesn't have the authority to make the health department test for lead hazards and enforce cleanup.

Only about ten percent of the property owners affected have even complied with the law, calling it too expensive and cumbersome. Renters in the Old West End have raised concerns they could lose their homes over the lack of lead paint testing being done.

There's a June 30th deadline for the first group of landlords, who face fines for non-compliance, unless a judge issues a restraining order.
