Fiat Chrysler announced plans to join the ranks of other automobile manufacturers by offering a vehicle subscription service. The plan was announced in a meeting in which FCA revealed a 5-year-plan for the company.
The service, named Jeep Wave, would allow subscribers to select from an array of vehicles and insurance plans for a monthly fee. While the program has the Jeep brand attached to it, other cars from the Fiat Chrysler family would also be available. Subscribers would be able to change vehicles each month for a fee.
This isn't the first automobile subscription service -- Ford, Cadillac, Volvo, and Porsche all have either launched or plan to launch their own services. Fiat Chrysler hopes to differentiate their plans by offering "Jeep Coins", given to people who purchase a Jeep Wrangler or Hawk which would allow them to borrow another vehicle.
A pilot program of Jeep Wave is set to launch in North American in 2019. Pricing and availability have yet to be announced.
