Toledo Festival Season Gets Underway This Weekend

(Toledo, OH) Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) Catholic Church is celebrating its centennial with its final festival today through Sunday along the Anthony Wayne Trail in South Toledo. 

As part of its 100th anniversary, OLPH is hosting Centennial Saturday, where the church has invited the Toledo Zoo to bring live animals and Imagination Station to do kids activities from 1 to 4 p.m. Mascots such as Muddy and Mudonna, UT's Rocky and Rocksy, and the Toledo Walleye's Cat Trick and Spike will be on hand, too.

The Old West End Festival runs today through Sunday, promising some colorful fun in one of Toledo’s oldest neighborhoods. The feature attraction is the eclectic King Wamba Parade on Saturday at 10 a.m. There also will be an art fair, 5K race, house tours, live music and food, along with a children's activities section.

The annual Maple and Main Art and Music Festival takes place in downtown Sylvania this weekend. The Sylvania Arts Commission event runs Saturday and Sunday during the day. The festival offers a free weekend of fine art, music and food, where the streets are filled with vendors featuring a variety of art, jewelry, pottery and more.

Downtown Perrysburg officials are kicking off a summer series of events called First Friday Fitness and Fun this evening. Yoga for kids, fruit and veggie art, a petting zoo, and face painting are among the activities planned as families stroll the streets. The event runs 5 to 8 p.m.

One of the Toledo Area Humane Society's biggest fundraisers occurs tomorrow morning. Bark in the Park is an event where dog owners and their pets can participate in a canine-friendly 5-K and fun walk. The event runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Sidecut Metropark in Maumee.

ProMedica will kick off its Promenade Park summer concert series tomorrow evening, with a performance by Gladys Knight. Toledo-based jazz singer Ramona Collins will open the show. The concert begins a series of Friday night concerts with big-name acts this summer, with tickets to most shows only costing ten bucks apiece. Those concerts will run through September.

The Findlay Pride picnic takes place tomorrow at Riverside Park near downtown. LGBTQ Spectrum is putting on the community event, hoping to build a supportive community in Hancock County. The picnic runs 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
