BG School Board to Discuss Bond Issue Options

(Bowling Green, OH) The Bowling Green school board must decide next steps after a stinging defeat at the polls.

The BG board of education will meet Tuesday evening, not expecting to come up with a plan B after voters rejected for a second time a $72 million bond issue to expand the high school and consolidate its elementary schools.

The bond issue this time lost by 1,300 votes, a larger margin than a first attempt last November. There also was organized opposition this time from a group known as Wood County Citizens Againt Higher Property Tax.

The issue appears to be the rising value of agricultural land, which means Bowling Green gets a smaller amount of matching funds from the Ohio School Facilities Construction Commission. The B-G school board will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the middle school library.
