(Toledo, OH) Law enforcement wants you to watch for motorcycles with the weather now warmer.
The Ohio Highway Patrol says progress is being made, with a 20 percent reduction last year in motorcycle-involved crashes, but there were still 155 fatal wrecks statewide in 2017-- nine percent of those involving alcohol or drugs. Only three in ten motorcycle riders were wearing helmets in those fatal crashes.
May is motorcycle safety awareness month-- so troopers are encouraging helmet use, as well as drivers giving them a wider berth on the highway.
The Lucas County Traffic Safety Council. the Harley Davidson Riding Academy and a motorcycle education group called ABATE are holding a press conference to talk about highway blind spots later today.
