(Oak Harbor, OH) ) A First Energy subsidiary declares bankruptcy over the weekend, as part of the expected closure of Davis-Besse.
Operations are expected to continue as normal at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant, despite its owner's bankruptcy filing.
FirstEnergy Solutions filed for Chapter Eleven protection this past weekend, citing too little cash to cover a 100-million dollar debt payment that's due today.
The utility announced plans last week to shutter the nuclear power plant near Oak Harbor by the end of May, 2020. First Energy Solutions has said there won't be any major improvements made to Davis Besse before its scheduled closing, which means nuclear regulators could shut it down sooner if something major goes wrong at the plant.
