Deer-Car Crashes Down in Ohio

(Columbus, OH) You're less likely to hit a deer while driving in Ohio.

Data from the Ohio Division of Wildlife indicates more deer hunting over the past three years helped to decrease crashes between deer and cars state-wide.

The agency says hunters harvested about 186,000 deer between 2015 and 2017, but deer-car collisions dropped by more than 12 percent during that same time period, peaking at over 21,000 collisions in 2015.

Part of the reason for the trend--  some communities where the deer population had grown problematically have allowed or expanded bow hunting to thin the herds.
