Toledo NAACP Backs Issue One Tax Increase

At a Tuesday press conference the Toledo chapter of the NCAA came out in favor of Issue One the ballot issue that has been touted as a fix for Toledo's road repair problems. When Toledoans go to the polls on Tuesday March 17 they will decide whether to raise the city’s temporary income tax rate by half a percentage point, from 0.75 percent to 1.25 percent, for 10 years. The mayor has promised that the bulk of the money will go to road repair and resurfacing. Critics point out that the ballot language says 40%, and then only a portion of that.

Mayor Kapszukiewicz points out that the bulk of the "new" money is what will be used for roads and that critics are using disinformation to confuse the electorate.

Several local African-American pastors, councilpersons, and ministers were on hand for the press conference and stressed the importance of passage of Issue One to provide not just funds for roads but for parks, and pre-K education.
