Oregon to Seek Downtown Developers

(Oregon, OH) Oregon city leaders are making good on a pledge to develop a downtown.

Oregon city government is in the process of buying 167 acres of land along Navarre Avenue as what leaders call a "once in a generation opportunity" to create a  retail, residential, and entertainment district with some open green space along busy Route 2.

30 acres already are acquired, including the site of a former radio station. The next target is the former KMart store, which closed last year. That store is expected to be demolished and the site redeveloped as mixed-use residential and retail.

The area under consideration runs from St. Charles Hospital to Pickle Road. Oregon city council plans to ask the public for input before putting out proposals to developers.
