Maumee River Designated Ohio River Trail

(Waterville, OH) The Maumee River is now Ohio's newest designated "water trail."

Metroparks Toledo officials are celebrating that designation with a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting today. More than 100 miles of the Maumee River will get signage and mile markers from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, along with maps and online resources to help canoe and kayak paddlers chart their trips.

The hope is to make the mighty Maumee a river destination for water recreation and increase regional tourism. To that end, the Metroparks is developing campsites on Granger Island in Waterville, to provide overnight acommodations for paddlers want to use the river for a longer trip.

The dedication ceremony takes place at 11 a..m. at the Farnsworth Metropark boat launch.
