WW II Vet to Graduate University of Toledo

(Toledo, OH) A World War Two veteran will be among the University of Toledo graduates this weekend.

WTOL reports 96-year old Bob Barger will be among the 3,100 Rockets turning their tassels at various ceremonies, graduating with an associate's degree he never knew he earned.

Barger served as a naval aviator in World War Two and like many veterans, came home in the mid-40's, married, had kids, and took care of family, a mortgage and life. His sales career flourished and he never went back to finish his degree.

But Perrysburg city councilman and UT director of military affairs Haraz Ghanbari did some checking after a conversation with Barger. His college transcripts showed enough credits for a degree UT had added in later years.

Other UT student veterans took a collection to pay for Barger's cap and gown.
